Where has the time gone?! I can’t believe I’m looking for activities for my ONE YEAR OLD and I!

While searching Pinterest, I came across a similar idea using boxed mashed potatoes & food dye to make finger paint! How fun!

Instead of using dye, I used real fruits & veggies for our coloring- beets & blueberries!

I also wanted to separate play time and meal time. Other finger painting activities I saw for kids were doing it in their high chairs. I’d recommend getting a plastic table cloth (mine was from the dollar store), cardboard boxes, newspaper or something else to sit on to clean up the mess! This way you don’t have as much confusion about play time and meal time.

These are my instructions for making purple & pink finger paint!

Ingredients You’ll Need:
Box of instant mashed potatoes
1 beet
¼ cup frozen blueberries
Cardboard/poster board/ paper
Cute kids 😉

Instructions:

  • Peel beet and place in small pot of boiling water. Cook beet til slightly soft for use for some delicious meal. Reserve the water. Use about 1/3 cup of the beet water for your paint.
  • Combine blueberries and 1/3 cup water in blender and puree.
  • In one container, take ½ cup of dry mashed potatoes and mix with beet water. Add plain water to reach desired consistency.
  • In separate container, take another ½ cup of dry mashed potatoes and mix with blueberry puree. Add plain water to reach desired consistency!

Edible Finger Paint

I made ours pretty thin by adding more water, I found that easier for itty baby fingers!

The “paint” has a fun and different texture that we all had fun with. It was best using a poster board so we could swirl it on and smoosh it with our hands!

Have fun with your little one! Let me know how it turns out!
